The InquisitorMission statementSince September 11, 2001 something has gone badly wrong with the international press although the first signs of trouble had come years earlier. Once a public watchdog scrutinizing the behavior of government and big business alike, criticism has grown muted to the point of near silence. In the war of words regarding foreign policy, patriotism, civil liberties, the economy, the environment, trade and the hunt for dangerous terrorists, truth has been among the first casualties. Particularly alarming has been the abdication of its critical role by much of the US press. Unnamed government sources are treated as verifiable. Coverage of other pressing issues such as public health, crime, education, poverty and corporate scandals has virtually disappeared. Much of the press appears terrified of being branded as traitors. Yet the media's primary role is to tell the truth and take risks. Sadly, few seem prepared to do so. Headquartered in London and Los Angeles, the Inquisitor's international mission is to bring all the pressing issues of public interest firmly back into the debating circle. To always question authority. To identify and weed out misinformation. To provide insightful news analysis. Over the past months we have drawn on the talents of independent reporters all over the world, publishing journalism of the highest standard. We have provided in-depth coverage of the war and occupation in Iraq, the issues of weapons of mass destruction and terrorism, the state of civil and press freedoms in the US, genetically modified food, the international economy, and disputes and developments within the United Nations, NATO and the European Union. We welcome contributions and suggestions, thoughts and ideas, from both sides of the Atlantic and from all over the globe. To participate, please contact us at editors@inquisitoronline.com.
